How to Apply for PAN Card 2.0: Step-by-Step Guide

PAN Card 2.0, also known as e-PAN Card 2.0 or Updated PAN Card, is a digitally signed PAN Card. This is the updated version of PAN card, which allows you to apply online. Its process is similar to the old PAN card, but some new features are also included in it, such as QR code and updated security features.

This is the step-by-step process to apply for PAN Card 2.0

Step 1: Open Your Browser and Visit Income Tax Department Official Web Site

  1. First of all go to the official website of Income Tax Department www.incometax.gov.in.
  2. Here you will get the option of Apply for PAN, in which you have to submit your application.

Step 2: Select Form 49A or 49AA

  1. You have to select the form of Form 49A (for Indian Citizens) or 49AA (for Foreign Citizens).
  2. Form 49A is used for Indian citizens and Form 49AA is for foreign nationals.
  3. After selecting the form, you will get the option of “Apply Online”.

Step 3: Fill in your details

  1. You have to fill in your personal details (like name, date of birth, address, etc.).
  2. You also have to correctly input Contact Information (mobile number and email id).
  3. Document Verification: You also have to upload scanned copies of your identity proof and address proof.

Step 4: Aadhaar Linking (If applicable)

  1. If you have an Aadhaar card, you have to enter your Aadhaar number.
  2. Linking Aadhaar to PAN is optional, but it makes the process very easy.
  3. OTP Verification: To link Aadhaar to PAN, you will get an OTP (One Time Password) on your mobile number, which you have to enter.

Step 5: Upload Documents

  1. To verify your identity and address, you have to upload some documents such as:
  • Aadhaar Card (if available)
  • Voter ID
  • Passport
  • Driver’s License
  • Bank Statement (which can work as address proof)

Step 6: Make Payment

  1. You have to pay a fee for PAN Card. You can make online payment (Credit/Debit card, net banking, etc.).
  2. The payment fee for Domestic Applicants is Rs. 107 (including GST). If you are an international applicant, the fee is slightly higher.

Step 7: Submit Form

  1. After the payment is complete, you have to submit the form.
  2. You will get an acknowledgment number which is used to track your PAN card application.

Step 8: PAN Card Generation

  1. e-PAN Card 2.0 is generated directly on your email ID, which is done with digital signature.
  2. If you want a physical PAN card, you have to pay additional charges, and you get your physical PAN card through post (in 1-2 weeks).

Step 9: PAN Card Download

  1. If you have applied for a PAN card, you can download your e-PAN Card directly from the Income Tax Department website using your acknowledgment number.
